If you think about thought you will notice a never ending pattern, it’s why recurring thoughts can be haunting. A thought based on your beliefs, your last thoughts, or your emotional state will be attracted by you. Next, you will imagine it, and continue with similar thoughts or act upon that thought. Either way you will experience that thought, and a post perception of it will follow. That perception will then become the pre perception for any similar thoughts also dependent on your predominant emotion at that time. This circle of thoughts, experience, perception, to thoughts, experience, and perception never ends.
The emotion that you feel in any moment is indicative of where your vibration sits. That vibration is the means by which you ask the universe for what you want. If you vibrate on the negative side of the scale that’s what you will receive more of. Your non physical self reads your vibrational stance, not your words.
Are memories thoughts?
To answer whether memories are just thoughts lets examine memory. First you have no storage box for memories in your brain. Your brain is a sending and receiving mechanism. Secondly what make up memories? Well, they are made up of perceptions of experiences, and those in turn are made up from thought. So yes they are thoughts and like thoughts are attracted. Here is an exercise for you. Ask yourself how you feel in this moment. After you have determined that remember something from your past. That memory will have similar feelings or emotions to what you are feeling in this moment. Like attracts like.
What to do about memories or thoughts that are recurring
There are a few things you can do to rid yourself of unwanted thoughts. The first place is to question them. An example would be “am I remembering this correctly?”. Another thing you can do is ease the thought’s or memory’s pain. An example of this would be “I’m sure I did the best I could in that situation at the time or I would have done things differently”. Lastly you can replace the memory one thought at a time decreasing it’s harmful emotional effects. An example of this would be instead of remembering that you broke your grandmothers lamp when you were four. You could say to yourself that you remember accidentally breaking the lamp, which could move to I remember the lamp was broken, etc.
There is the lastly to our lamp story. Tell yourself that you recall how happy your grandmother was when she replaced that lamp with one she liked more. Remember her smile and the joy that the new lamp brought her. This is an easy exercise with a lamp story. Not so easily done with other stories but none the less it is important to at least minimize the harm with questioning and easing. There must be an understanding that everyone is doing the best they can in any situation “from their own point of view”. If you can accept that in others you will learn to accept that in you also.
Another option to rid yourself of memories or thoughts is to train yourself forward. Don’t look back. That’s hard to do. I find it best in my personal life to deal with those pesky thoughts as they arrive with the above methods. I find they work well but you be the judge, and try it. After each exercise take a deep breath and motion forward.
